Alabama Hills Recharge, 10.19

The Alabama Hills is located at the of Mt. Whitney, near the town of Lone Pine along Highway 395 and offers spectacular views and great dispersed camping. The area is made up of decomposing granite in all of the warm colors you can imagine and then backed up by My. Whitney’s white-blue rock. Its a favorite camp spot and we’ve been through it a few times but for this trip I was solo due to Beth’s work schedule.

I loaded up the truck with all of the camp essentials and a bunch of non-essentials with the plan to shoot some LEGO pics for Instagram, shoot some blog pics for myself and work, do some reading and some painting. The truck was definitely full of fun and early Thursday morning I was on the road before the sun.

The area was surprisingly full of campers for a mid-week arrival so I explored the lace of trails looking for a site with a bit of a view, far enough off the main trail and un-occupied. Eventually I found a nice tucked-away spot with a view of Lone Pine Peak, part of Mt. Whitney and no other campers in line of sight.

And I always appreciate choosing a nice spot for the throne when possible…

Did steak and zucchini on a Snow Peak Single BBQ Box. Nice piece of gear and once you get it figured out does a great sear while it cooks. Hardwood charcoal only.

While I took along art supplies I didn’t get to any painting, but I did shoot a BUNCH of fun LEGO shots and images for this blog and some upcoming possible editorial. Here’s six favorite LEGO shots for my @Fredbricksburg Instagram feed and there’s nearly 50 others waiting in the wings.

Was a great few nights out and a needed recharge. Looking forward to the upcoming holiday season and a huge deadline at work coming up as well. Standby for whatever’s next…
