Assorted Arts and Crafts, 4.21

A quick highlight reel of the last few month’s creative explorations as we’re into year two of the pandemic. Beth and I have both had our second shots so have been able to relax a bit. Work has been busy and challenging - and the company is doing well which is a blessing. I took on a new ‘surfaces’ project and built several new textures for our laydown photography, that was enjoyable to build and then to shoot on them. When the images show up in the world that’s another treat.

Glass-on-Glass Mosaic Gifts

On the crafting side, I’ve done a few more glass-on-glass mosaics and have built some storage/organization for my glass supplies.

Cherry Tomato Micro-Bombs!

We had a bumper harvest of cherry tomatoes which were scorched, dried and then preserved in olive oil. They’re like cherry tomato raisins and amazing. Then I changed out the garden and planted new, including an update to the herb boxes.

Although I’ve been slacking a little on the toy photography front, I did get this fun Six-Image Narrative Series shot and shared over on ToyPhotographers.com right before I harvested all the cherry tomatoes.

The Yarden Project continues…

I cut back our roses early this spring and they’ve come back in full color and bloom.

Desert Season

Amongst all that we got a couple day trips in to explore the desert and I got one camping weekend in. We’re headed out to Death Valley next weekend and are really looking forward to that.

“It’s right behind us, isn’t it…”

Beth and I ventured out to the Knott’s Berry Farm berry festival. It was our first outing since the pandemic began. We had a pretty good time despite the masks and “characters” and especially enjoyed the treats.

What’s next? Whittlin’!

In the last couple of weeks I’ve started learning some woodcarving-which has been a hoot-so stay tuned for more on in a future post. It started with some chip carving but has changed up to character carving and looking forward to progressing in skill and smiles.

My first three character carvings all out of 1” stock. I’m going to work through 20 of these before I step up to 2” stock. So much good stuff to watch and learn on YouTube, especially Doug Linker’s videos . Well, that about sums up the first quarter of 2021, hope you are all well - Matt
