RavenBot Workshop : Carvings from Q1, 2023
New carvings in 2023, these will continue to be presented in reverse chronological order. Some may be available on my Etsy Shop.
#161 & 162, Woodsy The Owl
23.03-4, This first Woodsy started off just as a bird with a hat, but once I had the hat roughed out it dawned on me that it was going to be Woodsy The Owl, of US Forest Service fame - Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute!
When Beth first saw it, she declared it a keeper that I shouldn't sell so I carved a second larger version that’s a bit more accurate to the original character. I typically haven’t carved after other’s characters, but have enjoyed learning from these two. The first one measures 5” tall overall, and the second measures 7” tall and about 2” at the base.
#160, Jürgen Von Fuzzhut
23.03, Jürgen is displeased with the disrespect you've shown his fancy Cossack hat. Measures 1-1/2" side to side, 4" tall.
#159, Caffeine Fiend
23.03, Who's wide awake??? This guy!
Celebrating my favorite hot drink.
#158, Sir Acha
23.02, I am Sir Acha, the patron spirit of spicy foods!
#157, Norbert Blurpletop
23.02, I wanted to carve a funny, happy monster so Norbert emerged from a block of basswood. Initially it didn’t have feet but grew them from a separate block. Ideas from my own cranium with inspiration for the monster idea from some other carvers I follow on IG: @MrBarghest and @JimHaggartCarvings.
#156, RavenBot Command Caravan, MkI
23.01, Every Raven king needs a throne so this concoction was created. The RavenBot Command Caravan MkI consists of the autonomous tracked command unit that comes complete with multiple displays, computer and speaker and a tankbot unit for grabbing stuff and general mayhem with movable arms, main turret and minicanon turret.
#155, Gnash - Bow Tie Tiki
23.01, "Blargh! Blargh! Mortal, dare not look me in the eyes!"
Gnash, the Bow Tie Tiki (#2) wears a smashing orange bow tie and nothing else. Handcarved from basswood and painted with artist's grade acrylic, Gnash is ready to guard your Tiki Bar with his presence. 1-3/4" wide, 5-5/8" tall and about an inch thick.
The Eyes Have It - study session
23.01, New Years Day I spent most of the day working through six different carver’s style of eyes. Perhaps with too small of a block, but was a good learning experience all around. I’ll take it on again in the future.
