Fluid Studies, 01.18
A couple years ago I shot a handful of experimental fluid photos with food coloring and then a few months ago got re-interested in the idea and shot a few additional test shots. After that I decided to make it a project and dig deeper, so purchased a quality clear fish tank and commercial grade food coloring, a few other supplies and began experimenting.
I shot a total of 12-15 different sets, often changing water within those sets and learned along the way about how much light would transmit through the varying levels of opacity. Also explored adding in some other mediums like opalescent paint and glitter, often to find out that they didn't glitter or opalese, so more experimenting there is in the future.
When I had 60 some final selects I decided that this first phase should stop at 100 selects, so I continued shooting every other night and a couple long sets over weekends, eventually shooting more than 1000 images to cull down to the favorites.
These are just a few of the selects, the full set of 100 is on my photo site here: theMirrorpool.com. I will do some kind of self-publish book with this phase 1 set and will be shooting phase two sometime this early spring with the goal in mind of putting a show on someplace down here in OC. I think these will look pretty smashing as a bright glossy enamel print.
Enjoy and please share! The full set is here, titled Fluid Studies, 01.18: theMirrorpool.com.
